I first came up with this personal mantra after leaving high school in 1992. I became aware that people were always fixated on either the past or the future, both creating endless unnecessary anxiety, worry and stress. Not wanting to fall into the same trap, I meditated on the problem and these words flowed into my mind. Since then they have travelled with me through life, proving most helpful in times when I too was becoming anxious about future events or fixated on what I perceived at the time as past failures. Hopefully this simple little mantra can help others to gain perspective on life and the events that create it.
In honouring the past, we are able to learn from the great achievements and even greater mistakes that took place throughout history. This can also be said of our personal history. We can then build on that knowledge with the power of hindsight to achieve greater wisdom and understanding of today and a prediction of what may come tomorrow.
Living in the present with a respect and understanding of the past, allows us to live each day to the fullest and gives us the ability to recognise and take advantage of any opportunities that come our way. The present really is the only moment we ever exist in, once in tune with it, all stresses and worries melt away and are replaced with peace and contentment.
Everything we have done in the past and everything we are doing in the present is helping to create the future. If we want a brighter future we must work towards it today. The burden of responsibility is ours and that of every single individual. As a world and as individuals, the only way to affect the future, is to take action in the present.
Love is the raw energy from which the Universe is built. It is said that all forms of creation are an expression of love; that all emotions are an expression of love. Love is eternal and it is our individual expressions of love that create our reality.
